Romania's President Traian Basescu will open the nation's very first biodiesel plant built by California's Greenline Industries and Romania's Ulerom.
The first biodiesel in Eastern Europe, the 7 million gallon annual capacity facility is located in Vaslui.
Ulerom is one of Romania's largest agri-business companies while Greenline Industries builds biodiesel processing facilities.
Adrian Porumboiu, president of Racova Group, which Ulerom is a part of said, "This biodiesel plant is a tribute to international cooperation, the facility was designed in the United States, built in Germany and Romania, and installed by a team from both the US and Romania."
This facility has more than just a business reason to exist; it represents a big step in the direction of energy independence, a logical and lucrative outlet for our crops and a serious playing card in the worldwide battle against warming and pollution,” he added.
The plant which will use computerized, continuous flow and modular construction and using EPA Award winning waterless, ion resin exchange processing systems, is expected to run continuously and only 3 employees are required to oversee the different processes.
"The plant was delivered on skids, trucked in to Vaslui on regular-sized trailers from our manufacturing facility in Germany. Assembly was done locally in a very short time, using local labor and skills. I am proud to be here on this landmark date for Romania and I am equally proud of the team that designed and built this facility,” " said Greenline chairman Michael Brown.
According to the San Rafael-based Greenline, the plant will play a key role in Romania's ability to comply with the European Union's requirement for 5.75% biofuels for the nation.
The European Union is not the only nation making biodiesel a priority. Brazil, the United States and Thailand are other countries who have passed laws seeking to encourage biodiesel production. Biodiesel can be made with palm oil, other vegetable oils, animal fats and waste products like sludge. THE END.
