Palm Oil: The Sun Daily report on the EU’s long slow descent into environmental fraud!

This is a story of a 21st century black hole of deception, subterfuge and environmental fraud? Just how did the officials that walk the halls of power of the Environmental Directorate of the EC convince the EC to get involved in the kind of banal, dishonest and furtive policies that now places the EU in the annals of black operations that is the hallmark of the likes of Fujimori of Chile and other banana republic dictators?

What is raising a stink all around is the blatant falsehoods that are so brazenly created and spread about palm oil that would make congenital liars and sociopaths beam with approval!

When the mid eighties gambit by the curiously named Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) to label palm oil as saturated fat and consequently bad for heart health was roundly debunked by the publication in peer reviewed journals of scientific studies showing that palm oil was, in fact heart friendly, the same CSPI was then recruited to publish a report in 2005 called “Cruel Oil: How palm oil harms health, rainforest and wildlife” in which they made wild and unsubstantiated claims that palm oil cultivation was causing massive deforestation and threatening the extinction of biodiversity such as the orangutan.

The report was prepared with the assistance of Aid Environment listed as partners with Hivos — a Netherlands based civil society group with direct links to campaigns in Indonesia. Hivos, in turn, is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs for close to 70% of its annual 100m Euro budget.

A 2010 report by researchers Caroline Boin and Andrea Marchesetti entitled “Friends of the EU.” (Vide: that the EU, through its environmental ministries and commissions is involved in funding up to 70% of the operating budgets of FOE EU.

Now Italian think tank, Libertiamo has blown the lid off the entire elaborate, cynical and vicious schemes masterminded by environmental groups and eagerly sanctioned by unscrupulous, unprincipled and shady bureaucrats walking the halls of the Environmental Directorates of the European Commission! (Vide:

The latest manifestation of the EC’s long, slow and chilling spiral down the path of payola and deception is the Malaysian paper, the Sun Daily which published a report written by Tan Yi Liang entitled “Stop the slaughter, save orangutans in Borneo” on August 5th 2012 (

The problem with the Sun Daily’s report was that it made no mention of the fact that the report was a rehash of an old November 2011 report in the Daily Mail relating to the arrest and subsequent prosecution of 2 Indonesian men by the Indonesian Courts for killing orangutans which had strayed into their plantation.

There can be little doubt that the palm oil industry supports the prosecution of the case and pending the disposal of the matter in the Indonesian Courts, it is only right that the law be allowed to take its course.

What is most interesting is that the report attempts to paint a picture of widespread and wanton destruction of wildlife in what is really an isolated incident! The vitriol directed at Malaysian authorities for their inaction on the issue by the likes of Nature Alert, Malaysian Animal Rights and Welfare Association and Malaysian Animal Welfare Society reflects the typical juvenile ignorance of the jurisdictional issues at stake here!

Asking the Malaysian authorities to intervene in a criminal prosecution that is instituted in Indonesian soil is akin to interference in the affairs of another sovereign state. Even if the plantation owners are Malaysian, the company involved is registered in Indonesia and the competent jurisdiction is Indonesian! THE END

Yes, it does look like the EU is promoting environmental fraud!

I've just lost all respect for the EU!

You're right. The palm oil campaigns funded by the EU are just black operations! Crooks!

The EC NGO lapdogs don't even know that one country can't meddle with the affairs of another country. Why blame Malaysia for something that happened in Indonesia? LoL!!

It is true! No country nor its citizens can meddle in the internal affairs of another country! Thus WWF, Greenpeace, FOE, etc, and much less the EC should not meddle with any Asian or African developing countries.
